Technology to Maximize Hearing in Young Children

This foundational course will describe how hearing works, and how technologies such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and Baha® can help when a person has hearing loss. Audiological candidacy guidelines for Nucleus®cochlear implants and Baha will be reviewed, and the technology will be briefly described. Further, an overview of the use of assistive listening devices for both product lines will be discussed.

Course Objectives

  • Upon completing this course participants will be able to describe how a Baha works, and for whom it is appropriate.
  • Upon completing this course participants will be able to describe how a cochlear implant works, and for whom it is appropriate.
  • Upon completing this course participants will be able to describe how an FM system works, and why it is beneficial to people using hearing assistance technology.
  • Upon completing this course participants will be able to name at least one type of sound processor accessory for the Nucleus 5 system, and one type of sound processor accessory for the BP100.
