Talk to Me! outlines the challenges faced by cochlear implant users with both land lines and cellular telephones. We discuss ways to overcome barriers such as "phone phobia" and explore ideas for listening practice. The latest phone features and assistive listening gadgets are reviewed, and we explore the telecoil feature and how to optimize its settings in various environments. We conclude with tips for selecting the best telephone to meet one’s specific needs.

Course Objectives:
- Upon completing this course, participants will be able to identify the major issues cochlear implant users face when using telephones.
- Upon completing this course, participants will be able to list examples of listening strategies and rehabilitation ideas to help cochlear implant users prepare for "auditory only" situations.
- Upon completing this course, participants will be able to describe a number of different types of telephones and various assistive listening products.
- Upon completing this course, participants will be able to explain how a telecoil works and illustrate its value in regard to telephone use.
- Upon completing this course, participants will be able to define Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ratings for cellular compatibility with hearing devices and summarize the steps for selecting appropriate cellular headsets to meet specific needs.
