Partnering with Your CI Audiologist: Tips for Getting the Most from Your Programming Session
The purpose of this course is to provide cochlear implant (CI) recipients and professionals with an understanding of the procedures performed by the audiologist during programming appointments. The various procedures performed during MAPping sessions are described, and the rationale for each procedure is explained. Attendees are given helpful hints for how to prepare for the appointment and receive information regarding improving communication with their audiologist before, during, and after the appointment. Recommendations for maximizing performance with the speech processor are also be provided including descriptions of sensitivity and volume, troubleshooting hints, and when and how to use speech processor accessories.

Course Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain the purpose of threshold (T) and comfort (C) level measurements used to set speech processor MAPs.
- Participants will be able to describe the purpose of loudness balancing of C levels.
- Participants will be able to describe various ways they can prepare for MAPping appointments in order to maximize communication with their audiologists regarding changes that need to be made to their speech processor MAPs.
- Participants will be able to identify the difference between volume and sensitivity settings on speech processors and describe when it is appropriate to adjust these settings.
- Participants will be able to describe when it is most helpful to use speech processor accessories such as telecoils, lapel microphones, personal audio cables, and main isolation cables.
