Dear Colleague,

Clinic-to-Clinic Tip

This month's tip is brought to us by Jeanne Coburn at Baystate Rehabilitation Care.

"If you are interested in an inexpensive portable VRA system for mapping, you can make one for about $25. Purchase a scenic "nightlight" on-line or at local stores like Wal-Mart or Spencers. The ones we have found to be most popular are the aquatic, jungle and racecar scenes that rotate around an internal light. We plug the nightlight into a wireless remote control for Christmas tree lights and then are able to discretely turn the nightlight on and off as a visual reinforcer. We also have plugged a disco ball and rope lights that flash or chase into the remote control set up with great success. These homemade visual reinforcers are lightweight, so we can use it in the booth or move it to any room available. Our kids love them more than the traditional visual reinforcers!"

Thanks for the tip, Jeanne! If you have a tip you would like to share with your colleagues, please send an e-mail to Laura at: lblair@cochlear.com
