Have You Heard 9-2010 - Hearing Loss Education Website
Dear Clinician,
This month Cochlear™ is proud and excited to introduce the Hearing Loss Education Website www.HearingLossEducation.com. The Hearing Loss Education Website provides consumers with information about hearing, hearing loss and the full range of treatment options available, from hearing instruments to implantable technology including cochlear implants and the Cochlear Baha® bone anchored hearing solution. This information allows patients to educate themselves on how different devices work, indications/candidacy and what the insurance and reimbursement process may look like for different hearing solutions. The website also provides patients with resources and helpful tips to assist them in communicating more effectively. A few highlights from the website are Types and Causes of Hearing Loss, Treatment with Hearing Aids, Advanced Treatments and Find a Hearing Specialist.

Types and Causes of Hearing Loss:
- Features consumer friendly information on the different causes and types of hearing loss
- Includes illustrations which demonstrate how hearing works
- Features illustrations on how hearing aids work
- Provides an overview of the different hearing aid models
- Describes some of the advantages and disadvantages of the different models

- This section is designed to inform patients about treatment options available when hearing aids are no longer enough
- It includes information on cochlear implants and the Baha bone anchored system
- Patients will find a check list of questions they can ask themselves to help determine if an implantable solution may be right for them
Find a Hearing Specialist:
- The new website features a powerful search engine that assists in linking patients to local hearing specialists in their area. Consumers can search by state or zip code to locate a provider convenient to their home
- The specialists featured on the website are all part of our Cochlear Alliance Network. To find out how you can become an Alliance member call us at 800-523-5798 and ask to be connected to the Territory Outreach Specialist (TOS) in your area
About the Cochlear Alliance:
The Cochlear Alliance Network is a powerful network of professionals who are uniquely qualified to offer patients information on all types of hearing technology, including implantable solutions. This program provides tools and education to help hearing healthcare professionals provide their patients with guidance regarding treatment options. These options include implantable technology and bimodal fittings (a hearing aid in one ear and a cochlear implant in the opposite ear). Candidacy criteria and technology are ever evolving, and this information can assist in providing professionals with guidance when working with patients who may no longer be receiving benefit from hearing aids alone.
