Have You Heard May 2010
Dear Clinician,
- Do you have patients looking for resources about hearing loss?
- Has a patient ever asked you about how they can connect with others who have a hearing loss similar to theirs?
- Do you have patients who are struggling because their hearing aids are no longer enough?
- Are your patients interested in connecting with others who have received a cochlear implant or Baha® bone conduction system?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions the Cochlear™ Community can help. The Cochlear Community is a unique website designed as a social networking neighborhood to facilitate interaction between implant recipients, their friends and family. The site offers a place to connect with others and share experiences while blogging, posting comments, uploading videos or media files.
Members of the Community benefit from getting answers to their questions about all hearing solutions and how to best optimize technologies, regardless of whether they use hearing aids, a cochlear implant or a Baha bone conduction system. Participants also gain firsthand insight from cochlear implant and Baha recipients. The website offers resources such as live open captioned webinars where you and your patients can learn about implant candidacy, what outcomes to expect, as well as information about the impact the technology has had on individual’s lives. Members will also learn about emerging trends in hearing healthcare including bimodal hearing i.e., a cochlear implant (CI) in one ear and a hearing aid (HA) in the opposite ear, and the benefits associated with combining acoustic (HA) and electric (CI) hearing.
Other resources on the Cochlear Community include the Cochlear Message Board where members can post questions related to our products and services. Cochlear employees respond to the posts, address questions and share information. Responses can be viewed by any member on the Community.
If you have patients who are interested in finding out if an implantable hearing solution is right for them encourage them to visit the Cochlear Community.
