Course objectives:
This course is designed to provide an integrated approach of anatomy, imaging, technology, variability, surgical dilemmas, solutions, and outcomes for cochlear implant surgery. Time is divided between didactic sessions and temporal bone lab.
Learner Outcomes:
- Improve efficiency and outcomes of cochlear implant surgery
- Review common variations of anatomy and surgical technique
- Understand issues and surgical modifications unique to pediatric cochlear implantation
- Review pre-operative assessment, intraoperative techniques, and outcomes of cochlear implantation in patients with abnormal anatomy including cochlear ossification and inner ear malformations
- Review common (and not so common) intraoperative dilemmas and learn strategies to resolve them
- Review revision surgery
Intended audience:
Any cochlear implant surgeon seeking to expand their knowledge base, improve their skills and outcomes, and learn advanced surgical techniques.
Lab and Materials Fee: $500
